ADOPT DON'T SHOP
With the unprecedented number of animals being confiscated and/or surrendered by Puppy Mills, this year pure bred puppies and adults wait for you at your local rescue group or shelter. With recent stepped up enforcement, raids are happening every day across the country. Those dogs and puppies are now with local groups. The difference between getting your pup or adult from a shelter or a puppy mill, is that these animals have now been vetted, evaluated and provided with a back up support system. Many of the surrendered mill dogs will need to stay in foster care while their mental and physical conditions are cared for, but many are ready for a new home. Unlike the Puppy Mill Industry, when you adopt from a rescue or a shelter, if the adoption doesn't work out you can return the pet and know that it won't be used to further the breeding cycle. Additionally, reputable rescue groups will make sure the pet you want is suitable for your home. Unlike pet stores and internet sales where anyone can purchase any animal as long as they have the cash. A rescue or shelter will help you find a suitable addition to your family. The news is filled with daily busts. Please go to your local shelters and rescue groups and fill out an application, It is no longer socially acceptable to purchase a puppy at a pet store, Please be part of the solution not the problem.

NO MATTER WHAT A PET STORE CALLS THEMSELVES, THEY ARE STILL A PET STORE. EACH OF THE STORES BELOW TRIED SUCH WORDS AS "BREEDERS OUTLET, BOUTIQUE, KENNEL, LETS BE HONEST BECAUSE THEY WON'T******* IF YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR OF AN ESTABLISHMENT WHICH IS NOT A "HOME", You know "home", where someone lives, where the dogs are raised as part of the family, where you can "Meet the Parents", then you are in a 'PET STORE". Back Away, don't do it slowly, as the Store employees and owners will chase you, they will tell you they aren't a "Store", Believe your eyes, know in your hearts that 'NO REPUTABLE BREEDER" WOULD EVER SELL THROUGH A STORE. BE SMART, BE EDUCATED AND REALIZE THAT PEOPLE WILL LIE TO YOU TO LINE THEIR POCKETS. "Good Luck". Remember its you against them. You are their meal ticket and they will tell you whatever you want to hear. Your credit card is what they want***********. Now read on because this is what happens when there are to many lawsuits from the ripped off consumers. PET PARADISE, just like "Shake A Paw" and Puppies N. Puppies has chosen to close up in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, there will be another pet stores out there willing to take the money of the ignorant or uncaring consumer. When considering buying a puppy from a pet store, think about the industry they represent. Or think as we do that "Buying Puppies from a Pet Store is like Purchasing Candy from a Child Molester". If you are one of the very few people who never saw Oprah or read the papers or saw the news regarding Puppy Mills, please if you have been taken advantage of by one of these stores. Tell your friends and family so they don't make the same mistakes. It is NEVER acceptable to buy a pet in a pet store.
REMEMBER PURCHASING PUPPIES AT PET STORES MEANS YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE PUPPY MILL INDUSTRY. ORPAH SAYS SHE WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY A DOG BUT WILL ONLY RESCUE ONE.

Ever wonder why Adopt A Pet, A Central New Jersey rescue group, one of the first members of Petfinder, is so against Puppy Mills. Look at our website look at who we have for adoption and look at our happy tails. More than 70% of our dogs came directly from a pet store or a mill. The Shelter animals don't stand a chance as long as the market is being flooded with a never ending supply of Puppies and kittens.

Who we are...

Adopt-A-Pet was founded in 1984 and is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to finding homes for animals who need them. Adopt-A-Pet is different from most shelters and rescue organizations in that any animal who comes through our doors will not be in danger of being euthanized. Many animals have problems that are solved if given the right treatment and training, these dogs are kept in foster homes until adopted

News....
Adopt-A-Pet thanks Coastal Veterinary Clinic, for the donation of their van Dr. Fritz McHugh has always been a friend to the rescue community and if you are in need of a "wonderful vet", give Coastal a call at 732-793-1104. They are located at 415 Hiering Avenue, Seaside Heights, NJ. Our new van is equipped with cages and will help us transport our dogs and kitties for adoptions and will help with our Puppy Mill Rescue efforts. Again many thanks to Fritz and Amy McHugh for their generous donation. .

Donations....

We are desperately in need of donations to pay for medical bills for our handicapped pets. EDUCATED PEOPLE DON'T BUY FROM PET STORES, REMEMBER A STORE SELLING PUPPIES AND KITTENS DOES NOT REPRESENT A REPUTABLE BREEDER. THEY REPRESENT "COMMERCIAL BREEDERS OR WHAT WE CALL PUPPY MILLS". We are always in need of dog & cat food ,crates, blankets towels, toys, supplies and cash donations.

THERE IS NEVER ANY REASON TO PURCHASE A PUPPY OR A KITTEN IN A PET STORE. THE SHELTERS AND RESCUE GROUPS HAVE ANY TYPE OF PET YOU COULD WANT.

Last Years Christmas Present Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, With no thought of the dog outside filling their head. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Knew he was cold, but didn t care about that. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Figuring the dog was free and into the trash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the luster of midday to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But Santa Claus - his eyes full of tears. He unchained the dog, once so lively and quick, Last years Christmas present, now thin and sick. More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name. And the dog ran to him, despite all his pain; “Now, DASHER! Now, DANCER! Now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! On CUPID! On, DONNER and BLITZEN! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Let’s find this dog a home where he’ll be loved by all” I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year, For Santa Claus had made one thing quite clear, The gift of a dog is not just for the season, We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons. In our haste to think of giving the kids a gift There was one important thing th at we missed. A dog should be family, and cared for the same You don’t give a gift, then put it on a chain. And I heard him exclaim as he rode out of sight, “You weren’t given a gift! You were given a life!”

"Baggage"
by Evelyn Colbath

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm . . . Yes, there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
